A Look At The Action From Round One Of The Augusta National Women’s Amateur
EVANS, G.A, – The stage is set after the first round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship at Champions Retreat.
72 ladies teed it up Wednesday morning and it was a beautiful day for golf, but not for the defending champion. Anna Davis incurred a four stroke penalty on her first hole when she picked up her ball twice and placed it back on the ground. She shot 76 on the day and is tied for 43rd. The youngest golfer in the field, 15 year old Gianna Clemente shot a 74 and is tied for 23rd. When all was said and done, Rose Zhang from Stanford University finished with a six under, 66, good enough for the clubhouse lead.
“I think from the start of the round, I just really wanted to make pars. At the Champions Retreat, you never know what you are going to get. With the ground being so soft and muddy, I could not have expected more from my game today,” said Zhang.
Round two starts Thursday, March 30th at 8 a.m. at Champions Retreat. Of course, we will have all the coverage all week long on both WCCB and Rising.
